Why does it feel like Wendy's stopped serving breakfast?

Because well over a thousand stores dropped it within a few months, and in some metros nearly every store did at once. Breakfast was mandatory system-wide from March 2, 2020, until February 2026. On the Q4 2025 earnings call (February 13, 2026), interim CEO Ken Cook said franchisees could take "some hours off the morning daypart" to focus on lunch, dinner and late night — late night having been the chain's best-performing daypart in 2025. Why did those stores drop breakfast?

Money, specifically labor. Wendy's breakfast is a separate menu cooked on the same grill by a crew that has to arrive at 5:00–6:00 AM for a daypart that generated 5–5.5% of sales in 2026, down from about 8% at launch. Franchisee accounts put the cost at 12–20 labor hours per store per day; at low-volume stores the morning brought in under $200 across four hours, with heavy discounting (the 2 for $3 Biggie Bundle, $1 biscuits) and product thrown out at the end of hold times.
