What time does Wendy's start serving breakfast?

Wendy's starts serving breakfast the moment the store opens — 6:30 AM at 43% of breakfast-serving locations. One in three stores opens earlier (6:00 AM or before) and one in ten opens at 8:00 AM or later. The earliest verified breakfast starts are 4:00 AM at airport and 24-hour stores; the latest regular start is 9:00 AM.

There is no separate "breakfast opening" at Wendy's. On 4,024 of 4,041 store pages we checked, the restaurant's opening time and its breakfast start time are the same minute. So if Google Maps says your Wendy's opens at 6:30 AM, breakfast begins at 6:30 AM — and if it says 10:00 AM, that store does not serve breakfast (more on that below).

Where you live shifts the odds. In the Northeast, 21% of breakfast stores don't start until 8:00 AM or later, compared with 10% in the Midwest, 9% in the South and 7% in the West. Kentucky, Utah, West Virginia and Louisiana stores most often open at 6:00 AM; Washington, Oregon, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Connecticut and Maine at 7:00; Colorado at 7:30; Kansas and Massachusetts at 8:00. The very earliest breakfasts are at Sacramento International Airport (Terminals A and B, 4:00 AM), two Washington DC stores (Georgia Avenue NW and Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue, 4:00 AM), a cluster of seven Indianapolis-area stores (4:00 AM) and the CVG airport concourse store in Hebron, Kentucky (4:00 AM).

Does your Wendy's serve breakfast at all? (1 in 4 don't)

No, not every Wendy's serves breakfast — about 27% of US locations (1,512 of 5,635) don't. Breakfast is a franchisee decision, and since February 2026 operators have been allowed to opt out of it entirely. Stores without breakfast open at 10:00 AM (84% of them) or 9:00 AM (12%); stores with breakfast open at 6:30 AM or earlier. Wendy's confirms this only in one sentence — "Not all Wendy's locations serve breakfast" — without saying how many or where. Here is how many, and where.

The 30-second check (no phone call needed)

1. Read the opening time. Google Maps, Apple Maps or the Wendy's app shows "Opens 6:30 AM" (or earlier) → the store serves breakfast. "Opens 9:00 AM" or "Opens 10:00 AM" → it doesn't. This one rule is right for more than 95% of stores.
2. Look at the official store page. On locations.wendys.com, breakfast stores list "Breakfast" under At This Location and have a separate Breakfast menu page; no-breakfast stores have neither.
3. Open the app before 10:30. Select the store. If the menu shows a Breakfast tab, breakfast is on. If it shows burgers and nuggets at 8:00 AM, that store skipped breakfast.
4. Ask Google directly. Search "Does [street address] Wendy's serve breakfast" — breakfast stores publish exactly that question on their official page with the answer "Yes, this Wendy's location serves breakfast!"
5. Use the state table below to know the odds before you even look.

One caution: if a store's official page says breakfast "ends at 6:30 AM", that is a display bug on Wendy's locator — the widget prints the start time with the words "ends at". Breakfast at that store runs from 6:30 to 10:30.

Where breakfast is (and isn't) common, state by state

Breakfast is near-universal in Montana, Wyoming, Hawaii and DC (100%), Maryland (98%), Kentucky (96%), Utah (95%), California and Arkansas (93%). It is a coin flip or worse in New Hampshire (24%), Vermont (25%), Maine (38%), New York (40%), Iowa (42%), Minnesota and New Mexico (43%), North Carolina (45%), Idaho (49%), Alaska, South Dakota and Connecticut (50%) and Texas (56%).

Cities where most Wendy's skip breakfast

Among cities with ten or more Wendy's, the highest no-breakfast shares are Rochester, NY (82%), San Antonio (80%), Marietta, GA (80%), Raleigh (70%), Charlotte (67%), Greensboro (64%), Austin (62%), El Paso (54%), Virginia Beach (53%), Houston (46% — 19 of 41 stores), Wichita (42%) and Pittsburgh (42%). At the other end, every Wendy's in Indianapolis (19 of 19), Detroit, San Diego, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale and Lexington serves breakfast, and Columbus, OH (31 of 32) and Orlando (30 of 31) are nearly there.

Some stores serve breakfast only on certain days

Sixty-three US stores serve breakfast on some days but not others — Mondays (28 stores) and Sundays (25) are the days most often dropped. One Augusta, GA store serves breakfast only on Sundays; one Richmond, VA store only on Saturdays. A further 81 stores still have a breakfast page on wendys.com with every day marked "Closed" — the footprint of recent opt-outs whose pages weren't removed. Drive-thru, dine-in, app and delivery: breakfast hours by channel

Drive-thru and counter breakfast run the full window — 6:30 to 10:30 AM at most stores. Delivery breakfast starts later, at 8:00 AM according to Wendy's, and ends at 10:30. The Wendy's app shows only the current daypart, so if you see burgers before 10:30 that store isn't serving breakfast; customer reports put the app's last breakfast order at about 10:15 AM.

Two related questions come up constantly. Can you order lunch during breakfast hours? Usually not — same grill, and the app won't show lunch items before 10:30 — though some stores will cook a burger on request with a 20-minute wait (Can you get lunch during breakfast hours?). Why Wendy's breakfast hours differ from store to store (2026 update)

Wendy's is about 95% franchised, and each operator sets its own breakfast hours — or drops breakfast entirely. On February 13, 2026 Wendy's formally allowed franchisees to opt out of breakfast; by August the company said the "large majority" still serve it, but opt-outs had cut US same-store sales by about 0.7 percentage points. That is why some stores that served breakfast in 2025 now open at 10:00 AM.

2026 breakfast status timeline

• March 2, 2020 — Breakfast launches nationwide, Wendy's fourth attempt after 1985 (pulled within nine months), 2007 and 2012.
• July 24, 2023 — Frosty Cream Cold Brew replaces the Frosty-ccino and becomes an all-day item.
• October 13, 2025 — Thirteen Capital Region, NY stores (Albany, Troy, Schenectady, Rotterdam, Glenville, Halfmoon, Clifton Park, Saratoga Springs) drop breakfast and move to 9:00 AM openings.
• February 13, 2026 — Under interim CEO Ken Cook's Project Fresh, franchisees may opt out of the breakfast daypart.
• August 7, 2026 — Q2 earnings call. CEO Bob Wright: breakfast is "a complex topic that frankly we're still analyzing very deeply … it can't be disconnected from the broader strategy." CFO Steve Cirulis: breakfast is 5–5.5% of sales (8% in 2020); opt-outs cost about 70 basis points of same-store sales; US traffic fell 12.5%, partly from "reducing or eliminating breakfast operating hours at certain locations."
• September 17–18, 2026 — Meritage Hospitality Group, operator of 314 Wendy's in 15 states (AR, CT, FL, GA, IN, MA, MI, MO, MS, NC, OH, OK, TN, TX, VA), files for Chapter 11 after closing 60 restaurants and ending or cutting breakfast at 120–164 underperforming stores — a move it says added more than $11 million to store-level earnings.

The economics, in one paragraph

Operators who have dropped breakfast describe the same math: 12 to 20 labor hours a day to run a four-hour daypart, heavy discounting, food discarded when hold times expire, and at weak stores less than a few hundred dollars in morning sales. Breakfast is about one dollar in twenty at Wendy's, versus one in four at McDonald's. When margins are squeezed — beef costs, six straight quarters of falling same-store sales — the morning is the first thing an operator cuts, and the store's opening time moves from 6:30 to 10:00.

Same city, different hours

Because the decision is made store by store, city-level answers fail. Eighty-six US cities have three or more different breakfast start times among their Wendy's: Sacramento's stores open at 4:00, 5:00, 6:00 and 7:00; San Diego's at 5:00, 6:00, 6:30 and 8:00. In Skokie, Illinois, the Touhy Avenue store starts breakfast at 6:00 AM and the Skokie Boulevard store, two miles away, at 8:00. What you can order during breakfast hours (and what survives 10:30)

During breakfast hours Wendy's sells its full breakfast menu — Breakfast Baconator, Honey Buddy Chicken Biscuit (formerly the Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit), bacon and sausage croissants, biscuits, English muffins, breakfast burritos, Homestyle French Toast Sticks, Seasoned Potatoes, Cinnabon Pull-Apart, hot coffee and cold brew. After 10:30 only beverages carry over — the Frosty Cream Cold Brew is sold all day — while Frosty desserts and burgers are lunch-only.

How Wendy's breakfast hours compare with McDonald's and other chains

Wendy's has the narrowest breakfast window of the major burger chains: a median of four hours, starting about 90 minutes later than McDonald's and ending at the same 10:30 AM.
